Evaluation Question 4: TECHNOLOGY

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Below is a SlideShare presentation of my completed New Technologies page covering the different technologies I have used whilst researching, planning, constructing and evaluating my film trailer, A Question of Identity.

What 3 technologies did I find most useful?

My groups WhatsApp group chat
WhatsApp - WhatsApp enabled me to make contact with each member of my film trailer group when we weren't in class, in the form of a group chat. With each WhatsApp member (members of our film opening) added in the chat, it allowed me to make contact about future and recent filming, props ideas, filming dates, characters, shot list ideas etc. This was essential during the planning and construction stages of my film trailer; making sure deadlines of filming scenes were met as each member was in easy contact for debate. I also used it extensively to collect feedback on my film trailer, especially during the construction stages when I was filming scenes having to follow the call sheets and shot lists. I took photos of shoots and short video teaser clips (also posted on Instagram) gaining positive and negative feedback from all members of my film trailer group. Like other social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, WhatsApp is a collaborative tool that allows me to build a photo feed, video blogging and information bank accessible to a wide range of people added to the group.
Making collective decisions on the title of our ancillary project: front cover of a film magazine

My film trailer Instagram page

Instagram - Instagram is a relatively new sophisticated, flexible and powerful tool that enabled us to upload photos from recent shoots, short 15 second teaser clips of my film trailer, character teaser clips and location recce photos taking on our mobile phones. I used it extensively throughout the planning, construction and research stages; it was flexible because I could update posts or even delete posts of generally photos/videos easily, add my location when posting videos or photos to allow my followers to know where I was, use filters to make my posts appear professional and easy to view. I often interconnected my posts on Instagram with other technologies I was using such as Twitter, Flipagram, Facebook or presentational tools such as SlideShare, Prezi or Emaze. For example when I made a post on Instagram, I would then share it to my Twitter page. This allowed me to make an 'inter web' of connections with all of my posts, feeds and presentations made using new technologies, making use of every technological platform. Instagram allowed me to connect with professionals associated with the film industry including producers, film makers, writers or even fans of the hybrid mystery, thriller genre. Instagram allows me to create and upload visually interesting posts and share my work online, allowing members of the public to access my film trailer photos anywhere and share their views instantaneously.

SlideShare - SlideShare enabled me upload PowerPoint presentations I had made on the research of using social media websites such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, the research and distribution of The Hunger Games: Mockingly and Maslow's Theory of Needs. I have used this technology extensively during the research, planning and construction stages of my film trailer. It is flexible because I can make a presentation in PowerPoint and quickly, easily upload the presentation to SlideShare making it compatible to be played on my blog. I can also edit my presentation, add special effects and unique, different designs to my slides on SlideShare before publishing it making it appear unique and visually clear. SlideShare allowed me to create and publish compatible work on my blog (using an embed code provided).
